Cristian Magaloni (Mexico City, 1982) is an actor, director and theatre teacher. He trained at the International Actor’s Studio with Juan Carlos Corazza and also studied Gestalt therapy at CIPARH. His career spans theatre, film and television; as an actor he has worked with prestigious stage directors such as Juan Carlos Corazza, David Gaitán, Boris Schoemann, Lorena Maza and Diego del Río. In film he has appeared in works by Salvador García Ruiz, Fernando Sariñana, Albert Arizza, Emilio Portes, Marcelo Tobar and Alejandro G. Iñárritu; several of these films won awards at international festivals such as Sitges, Málaga and Morelia. He has also acted in series for Netflix, Paramount, Apple TV and ViX. Impact and legacy: Thanks to the versatility of his career as actor, director and teacher, and his focus on stage truth and deep emotional exploration, Cristian Magaloni has become a key figure in Mexican theatre. His success with Indecente and Anatomía de un suicidio, along with the Metro and ACPT awards, demonstrates his ability to create productions that combine artistic excellence with social relevance. Students can see in his career an example of rigour and professionalism, as well as the importance of comprehensive training that embraces both acting technique and directing and teaching. Teaching and training: In addition to his artistic work, Magaloni teaches at institutions such as the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC), the Conservatorio de Actuación and LABCapilla, where he leads workshops for professional actors. His role as a teacher has allowed him to train new generations of performers and share his experience in directing and acting. Directed works and accolades: Magaloni has written and directed numerous plays, including Inacabados, Corridos Chejovianos, Hay un lobo que se come al sol todos los inviernos, Los ojos, Conjunto vacío and El viento en un violín. However, the following productions have earned him notable awards: Indecente: (an adaptation of Paula Vogel’s play). The production premiered in 2022 and in 2023 became one of the most awarded plays in Mexican theatre. According to the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature (INBAL), Indecente received five Metropolitan Theatre Awards, including Best Play, Best Leading Actress and Best Direction (awarded to Magaloni). It also won five ACPT (Association of Critics and Theatre Journalists) awards, among them Play of the Year and Adaptation/Translation, and was recognised by Cartelera de Teatro as Best Play, Best Playwriting and Best Direction. These honours solidified Magaloni as one of the most influential directors in contemporary Mexican theatre. Anatomía de un suicidio: In 2025, his staging of this work received the ACPT Award for Direction and was recognised as Play of the Year. During the thirtieth ACPT Awards ceremony it was noted that Magaloni received the award for Direction for this production. The play also garnered recognition for its cast and introduced new talent.
